Good News!
As of 5/14/08, our baby registry system is back and running. I was finally able to get a software customization done.
To create a baby registry:
1. Find an item you want.
2. Click the "add to registry" button.
3. Fill out the "profile" form (we need to know who you are so we can keep track of your registry). Make a note of your username and password.
4. In the next form, give us some details about your baby registry:
-- if you make it private, your friends will need a password to see it (check the private box and you'll get a chance to set a password and a password hint).
-- if it's public, anything you put in the title or description will end up on Google (so don't put private information there).
-- if you don't have a specific date, make something up. You can change it later.
5. The first product is already in your registry. Now you can navigate around the store and add more.
6. On your next visit, just sign in to the store (left menu) and your gift registry will appear near the top of the left menu.
7. When your friends look at your baby registry and add the items to their cart, the items will be removed from the registry (they're still listed, but show as already purchased). But note: if they shop without viewing your registry then the system has no way of knowing they're buying off your list.
8. Our system is NOT smart enough to prefill your shipping address for your friends, so please be sure to provide it to them.
9. Right now the easiest way to direct friends to your registry is for them to use the "search for events" link in the "special" area of the left menu. The search box lets them find anything in the title or description of your event -- your name, a nonsense word you put in there, etc.
