We strongly believe in finding the least-toxic bedding solution for your family. Your baby spends a whole lot of its first years asleep, and if her or she sleeps on a conventional crib mattress with a vinyl cover on top, chances are he or she is inhaling various chemicals that could have an effect on long term health. But there's an alternative!
Our organic cotton crib mattresses are made from high quality organic cotton and "Pure-Grow Wool" (ethically raised in the US). They contain NO chemical flame retardants. Instead, the wool layer does the job of preventing the mattress from catching fire.
All crib mattresses ship FREE via standard ground delivery.
We offer two basic configurations, innerspring and 100% natural latex. Both provide the firm sleeping surface that's recommended for infants. The innerspring mattress--the most popular option--contains 180 high-quality coils and is similar in construction to a standard innerspring mattress. The latex mattress has a core of natural latex (no synthetics blended in). Latex is known for its resistance to molds, mildews and dust mites. Latex mattresses are more flexible than innerspring models, which can make it easier to change bedsheets.
Mattresses measure a standard 28" by 52" and are designed to fit in modern cribs. They're approximately 6" thick.
How to choose among the innerspring mattresses:
For many of us, price is the main consideration when choosing an organic mattress (since they're already so much more expensive than the foam and vinyl ones you can get at your local discount store). You can't really go wrong with the basic "quilted" crib mattress. It's got the exact same core as the more expensive "tufted" mattress: 180 coils of 14-gauge steel, and a 12-gauge steel banding wire for shape and support at the edges. The basic difference between these two models is that in one the layers of cotton and wool are machine quilted and in the other they are hand-tufted. Hand-tufting allows more material to be put on, so the layers of organic cotton and Pure Grow Wool are thicker (and thus more expensive). What difference does this make? Over years and years of use, the "tufted" mattress will stay comfortable longer. Will you notice it with just one kid? Probably not. Three kids? Maybe. Three of your kids and three of your sister's kids? Yes.
What about the Terra Verde mattress? Again, it's the same innerspring core as the others, but the difference is that instead of cotton ticking, actual Pure Grow Wool blanket fabric is used for the cover. It's a unique and durable mattress.
All of the mattresses are suitable for use through the toddler years in a convertible bed.
All mattresses come with a 10-year warranty against defects. Ground shipping is free in the 48 contiguous states. Mattresses are made to order and delivery takes 2-5 weeks.
Mattresses made with just cotton (no wool) are also available, but they require a doctor's prescription. Call us for pricing if you're interested in these models.
A Pure Grow Wool puddle pad protects your mattress investment. They're generously cut to lay over the entire mattress, and they can prevent spills and wetness from soaking into the mattress. So much safer than vinyl!
